98% of Arizona’s high schoolers take the ACT, making this data into one of the (if not, THE) largest, most comprehensive data set by which to evaluate student performance - and, by extension, educators.
Only 14% of all AZ students met standard benchmarks in English, Math, Reading, Science - as compared to 21% in 2014. That’s a 7-point drop over 10 years.
English 40% (vs 54% in 2014)
Math 22% (vs 37% in 2014)
Reading 29% (vs 37% in 2014)
Science 20% (vs 29% in 2014)
No way to sugarcoat it, the data is simply devastating.
It wasn’t just the COVID lockdown-learning loss. This is steady, consistent decline across the board in all core academic subject matters.
End.
